The Task:
Because the soil of the rooting layer of the grass was only 15 cm thick,
the main problem was to conserve soil moisture and to protect the
seeds and soil from wind and water erosion until germination.
The tram line was to go back into operation immediately after installation
of the seeds and blankets. Therefore, measures had to be taken
to prevent dust and soil particles from getting into the motors and drives
of the trams.
The Solution
The problems were solved by the installation of BonTerra K
Coir Fibre Blankets with jute netting 2 sides. These Blankets are
completely bio-degradable and provide 100% ground cover.
The Installation:
First the area was seeded, then the whole surface was covered with
BonTerra K Coir Blankets and irrigated. Six weeks later the seeds
had germinated and grass was growing through the blankets. After
2 months, the whole area of the tram tracks was vegetated.
